July Week 3
Radioactive
Radiation Therapy and Andrew Carpenter
Duke never liked the rail. He always ran away from it. So, when Andrew took him out onto the racetrack, Duke kept a fair distance away from the rail. He cantered along like a pro. He pressed on at a long stride. Andrew felt comfortable with the colt. He had a quick gait and was always surprising them in many ways. They went along at a canter still. Duke threw his head up with a snort. The smell of rain perked him up.
It started to sprinkle just as Andrew was ready to get the colt going with his work. Duke seemed to get overly excited when he was out on the track. Andrew would try to calm him. He needed to relax. The rain started to come down harder. "Come on!" Andrew called. Duke's ears pinned back and he jumped into a super cyclone of a gallop. The rain darkened his dark bay coat as they thundered along the backstretch. Andrew was getting soaked but it wasn't a bother. He was just focused on the young colt he was riding.
When they headed into the turn, Duke didn't hug the rail. He gapped out from it. He covered more ground, but he didn't like the inside spot, even if he was the only horse on the track. Andrew tried pointing him towards the rail, but it was no use. It didn't hurt his speed at all. This colt was a firecracker of speed. Once in the stretch he pushed on and didn't let up. They flew past the wire and Andrew slowed him up. He reached down to pat the colt. He cooled him out and rode him back to the barn.

Perfect Beauty
Miss Josephine and Taylor Jordan
Josey was just one win away from becoming Grade Four. She was an incredible young filly. When Taylor rode her out onto the turf course she gave a little buck, kicking out her hind legs. Taylor just about popped from the saddle, but she held on. Josey was good with her. The others weren't really able to ride her. She bit just about everybody at the barn, except for Taylor.
Josey had matured a lot since she arrived at Sugarhill. She would be a wonderful addition to the broodmare barn, but that wouldn't be till season 16. Taylor enjoyed her ride on the filly. They kept along at a canter. Josey was ready to run. She pulled at the reins. Taylor held her back. "Not yet, sweet girl", she said. Josey snorted loudly and gave another buck. This caused Taylor to laugh. She loved how playful the filly could be.
Josey tugged again. This time was stronger. Taylor couldn't resist and let the filly run off. They flew down the backstretch. The filly lengthened her strides with every step she took. Taylor raised higher in the saddle, keeping more weight off of the filly. This gave her more momentum. She just seemed to dash around the turn like it was nothing. Down the stretch they came. It was a beautiful sight.
Josey pushed on even more, a blazing speed as she dashed down the stretch. They passed the wire very quickly. This filly was ready for another race. She was a big ball of energy. She would soon break her grade five status.
